Prep For Stem Cell Transplant

It’s finally here!!! June 5th I was admitted into the Juravinksi Hospital to start my preparative chemo and radiation. I had a HICKMAN line inserted which was pretty nerve racking but once it was over I realized it wasn’t that bad. They gave me a mild sedative before so that helped! The site is a little sore but nothing I can’t handle. My first night I was put in a shared room with an older lady. She was sooo sweet but very loud lol. I didn’t get much sleep last night but all should be good tonight because I’ve been moved to a private room in the transplant area now. I have a pretty nice view of Hamilton. My Chemo started today and I’m feeling ok so far, just tired. My Dad spent the day with me today. Assuming this week will fly by and it will be transplant day in no time! Apparently that part is very uneventful though I’ve heard.
June came so quick but I’m so glad it’s happening now. Can’t wait to recover and get on with my life. They say I’ll be here for about 5 weeks, but I’m aiming for less ;) I’m so very blessed that doctors have come this far with stem cell transplants and that they have found me a perfect donor. This type of transplant is said to be a cure so let’s hope I never have to worry about this nasty sickness coming back ever again!

Right before I left for the hospital I had a day full of family coming to visit. At one point it was Me, my Grandparents, Mom, Brother and my Aunt Cathy all sitting together. I realized, 3 out of 6 people in this room have been faced with a cancer diagnosis. That’s 50%! That is a scary and terrible thought but..we’re also all still here! I’d say we’re pretty blessed :)

Below is my lovely view of the City of Hamilton from my room, not bad.
