Same Story Different Year

SUPPORT TEAM CANDACE!

As a young child in elementary school, I remember the joys of hearing “today there will be an assembly” over the speakers. The best assembly by far was the Terry Fox Run. Same man, same story, year after year. No matter how many times you hear the story he always had a way of pulling you in. A story that sounds almost impossible for even the healthiest person. Terry Fox’s story continues to inspire me and many people all over the world.

The responsibility has recently been passed down to my Mom to continue to share Terry’s story in the community, with a little help from myself. Although there will be no assemblys or 5K group runs this year it is still extremely important to remember that cancer research is needed.

As my 30th Birthday quickly approaches I can only think of one thing I truly hope for in the future. I hope that no person ever has to go through what I went through. I hope to live in a world where a cancer diagnosis doesn’t disrupt an entire family with worry. I hope there comes a time when this disease is no less worrisome than the common cold.

On September 20/2020,  I encourage everyone to walk, run, bike wherever you are in honour of Terry Fox and the millions of people out there fighting for their lives. Around your neighbourhood, backyard, down the street, or around the block. This year, we will unite in spirit, not in person.
